The town of Lochgilphead is home to the headquarters of Argyll and Bute Council at Kilmory, which is one of the biggest employers in the area.

The Kilmory Industrial Estate is also home to a number of offices and garages. Another significant employer is Macleod Construction who build houses and commercial properties throughout Argyll with Lochgilphead having a high percentage of quality new build properties as a result.

A new high school was opened in 2007 and includes a full-sized synthetic sports pitch.

Presently there is a Co-op supermarket in the town centre and a Tesco Express is due to open early in 2008. There are a good variety of traditional shops in the town centre including health food shops and cafes.

The town also boasts a swimming pool and leisure centre.
