Campbeltown
Campbeltown is situated in the south of the Kintyre peninsula and is the main town of the area. Campbeltown airport is a five-minute drive away and provides a twice daily flight to Glasgow. The Vestas wind turbine factory is one of the main providers of employment with the more traditional industries of farming and fishing still providing job opportunities, although the fishing industry is not as strong nowadays.
Bus and coach companies run several daily services to Glasgow and beyond as well as servicing local routes. Timber haulers are kept busy transporting wood from Kintyre’s forests. Campbeltown have Co-op and Tesco supermarkets as well as various independent shops ranging from butchers, grocers and florists to furniture retailers. Campbeltown Creamery is renowned for it’s cheese production and has just announced significant plans for expansion. The Aqualibrium leisure complex was opened in 2006 and provides a wealth of leisure facilities.
The nearby Machrihanish golf course is one of the most popular in Argyll.
