Inverness lies at the mouth of the river Ness and became Scotland’s newest city at the start of the decade.
The city has undergone massive growth in the last 10 years and boasts a busy airport with flights to the rest of the UK and abroad, city centre shopping and out-of-town retail parks. It has its own senior Scottish Premier Division football club Caledonian Thistle, Eden Court Theatre has just re-opened after a multi-million refurbishment and boasts the Aquadome Leisure Centre and ice-rink as well as the music venue the Ironworks.
Hundreds of people are employed at LifeScan Scotland which is the most broadly based comprehensive manufacturer of health care products in the world.
Originally known as Inverness Medical, the company researches, develops, manufactures and markets for the diabetes monitoring market.
The local authority is also a major employer with Highland Council’s headquarters on Glenurquhart Road and there is a range of other employment opportunities including retail, tourism, industrial, health and leisure. Around 200 people also work at a centre for health sciences in the city while Raigmore Hospital is the biggest in the Highlands.
