The main settlement is the village of Craighouse on the east coast. Craighouse is home to the island's sole shop Jura Stores and the distillery.

The distillery produces Isle of Jura whisky.

The village is also home to the island's only hotel and church. Jura is home to a large population of deer, which vastly outnumbers the human population.
