Living in Beauly
There is this misconception that all of the Highland region is mountainous and rocky, but nothing could be further from the truth. The land here is rich and fertile and traditionally this was corn-growing country. Today it is more soft fruit and vegetables, as the local farm shops will testify.
Ten miles west of Inverness, close to the coast at Beauly Firth, many people commute to Inverness. Beauly has its own railway station and a healthy number of its own shops. Neighbouring Inverness promises excellent shopping and entertainment, and national and international links with its airport and the Caledonian Sleeper service to London Euston.
If you want to stay home for your entertainment Beauly has a great reputation for traditional music, it has its own pipe band and ceilidhs (traditional dances) are held regularly. Each autumn the town hosts a fiddle festival, Blazin in Beauly. The town’s primary school pupils go on to Charleston Academy in Inverness which prides itself on its international twinning links with Botswana and Sweden.
