Living in Dufftown
If you decide you want to live in a small Scottish town, what better than one which has been declared the Whisky Capital of the World? Dufftown sits on the banks of the River Fiddich, as in Glenfiddich, and along with that famous distillery is also home to Balvenie, Dufftown, Glendullan, Kininvie and Mortlach.
As well as a whisky trail and a whisky festival Dufftown also hosts a Highland games so the whisky industry does not just provide in employment in its manufacture but in the large number of tourists it attracts. People have also been known to visit for outdoor pursuits in the beautiful surrounding countryside.
The town is roughly half-way between Inverness and Aberdeen, giving people who live there a choice of destination when they want to go and enjoy the buzz of a big city or to travel by air, rail, or the ferries services form Aberdeen. Or you could take the town’s own railway, the preserved Keith and Dufftown Railway, an 11-mile stretch of track between the two.
As well as distilling and hospitality, their support services and work in the public sector and healthcare provide most of the work in this prosperous and friendly town.
After Mortlach Primary School in the town pupils go on to attend Speyside High in neighbouring Aberlour.
