Living in Dingwall
Dingwall, the county town of Ross-shire can seem to be a bit overshadowed by neighbouring Inverness, especially since local government reorganisation created the massive Highland Council.
This is a shame because Dingwall is a great town, and its architecture, an interesting mix over time, gives the place a wonderful look as does its location at the head of the Cromarty Firth. For many smaller communities Dingwall still serves its traditional county-town role as a shopping centre and home to many service industries.
It is also has a University of the Highlands and Islands campus, for the Highland Theological College.
The town is less than 15 miles away from Inverness with a rail link to the city and on to the Far North line and also to Kyle of Lochalsh.
It is also home to Scottish Premier Legaue team, Ross County.
Dingwall has played host to the Royal National Mòd, the annual festival of Gaelic music and culture and has a very successful Gaelic choir and Gaelic-medium schooling.
Its proximity to Inverness means that it is close to centre of the region’s social and cultural life with theatre, cinema and an incredible live music scene. Inverness is one of the north of Scotland destinations for many national and international music and theatre tours. Inverness is also a major transport hub with an airport and link into the national rail network.
