Barra

Traditional industries such as crofting and fishing are prevalent on this island but Barra is also becoming known for its enterprise. Fledgling business Hebridean Toffee was a recent winner in the Highlands and Island Business Awards.

Ferries link the island to Oban and Isle of Eriskay and there are also boat trips to the nearby island of Mingulay. A category two airport in north east of the island is the only one to have scheduled landings on a beach at Northbay and provides links to the mainland. The island is steeped in history and is another stronghold of the Gaelic language.
